myLot Topic Discussions | | My Letter To The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Foundation About Neil Diamond | | As I stated in my previous post, I am trying to start a letter writing campaign to have Neil Diamond FINALLY inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. This is the letter I will be mailing to them tomorrow morning. To Whom It May Concern:I would like to call to your attention the glaring omission of an amazingly talented singer/songwriter from the Hall of Fame to date. Neil Diamond has been part of the American music scene since the 1960s, and he continues to be popular today. This is a career which spans five decades, and deserves to be recognized by your foundation.Let me draw your attention to just a few of Neil's career achievement:1) He has sold over 125 million albums worldwide.
2) He has scored 36 Top 40 hits.
3) He won a Grammy Award for the soundtrack from Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
4) He won a Golden Globe Award for best original score, also for Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
5) He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 1984.
6) He received the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.
7) His album Home Before Dark debuted at the top of the Billboard charts in 2008.
8) He consistently sells out...
| | Neil Diamond Not In The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? | | What are these people thinking? Neil Diamond has not yet been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame? I believe that all of his fans around the world should start a letter writing campaign to try to influence his induction in the class of 2009. Unfortunately, the inductees for 2008 have already been chosen.Below is the address of the foundation which chooses the inductees. Write them a letter, and get all your family and friends to write letters as well. I will post a copy of my letter once I get it written. I think that we should mention his accomplishments and remind the foundation of his contributions to the music industry since the 1960s, including the fact that his newest album has debuted at NUMBER ONE!!Send your letters to:

| | Madonna Inducted Into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame | | The Material girl is going to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, congrats. She is an example of what hard work and determination can do for you.Other singers have better voices, but few were ever more popular. She deserves her success, because she worked so hard to get there. | |
| | | Rock And Roll Hall of Fame exhibition | | I've heard some good things about the current Clash exhibition at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
I wish I was in America and could go to see it. It's not the same just reading about seing Joe's tele on display and the interesting rough versions of lyrics and ideas from his personal notebook. Shame people aren't offfically allowed to take photographs. If you've seen it, what did you think?Livingston Seagull.

He is singer, songwriter, and consummate performer. His music appeals to people of all ages, and he continues to bring young people into the fold of Diamond fans. He is, quite simply, a living legend, and he has been a Hall of Fame artist in the hearts and minds of the public for decades. The name of Neil Diamond is forever written...
| | | | Rock & Roll Hall Of Shame | | Once again, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has jilted both The Ventures and Captain Beefheart. They've STILL not been inducted! The Ventures held the record for most hits until the Beatles came along, and are still the most successful instrumental band in the world. They basically made surf music a household name. So why deny them? And Captain Beefheart is regarded as one of the most innovative and creative geniuses the music world has ever seen. These Hall of Shame idiots aren't forgetful.
They're just a bunch of morons. They're instead gonna induct Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, R.E.M., The Ronettes, Patti Smith and Van Halen! I mean c'mon. I don't deny that The Ronettes and Patti Smith are deserving. But how about some of the 60's artists they've skipped? What about all the great blues players overlooked?
For shame. | |
| | RIP Les Paul | | Yet another musical legend has died today, Les Paul passed away:(http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090813/ap_en_mu/us_obit_les_paulWHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Les Paul, who pioneered the solid-body electric guitar later wielded by a legion of rock 'n' roll greats, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia. He was 94.
According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.
As an inventor, Paul also helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll with multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the tracks in the finished recording.
The use of electric-amplified guitars gained popularity in the mid-to-late 1940s, and then exploded with the advent of rock in the mid-'50s."Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music," Paul once said. "To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today a guy wouldn't think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system.""Without Les Paul, we would not have rock...
